The chart depicts the number of girls per 100 boys enrolled
in different levels of education. The data was taken from both developing and
developed countries at the year 1990 and 1998. It is evident from the chart
that girls in developed countries have easier access to education than their
peers in developing countries, and that girls in developing countries are less
likely to finish their compulsory education.
In 1990, the number of girls per 100 boys in developed
countries outnumbered that in developing countries. This happened in all level
of education. In primary education, these figures were not too far between.
However, moving to the higher levels of education, this distance grew further.
The number of girls per 100 boys in developed countries showed steady increase
as that in developing countries gradually fell.
Similar trend was repeated in 1998, although for both
countries, there was a slight rise in the number of female student in all
educational stages. One noticeable thing is although overall the number of boys
topped the girls’, this was not the case for tertiary education in developed countries.
Both in the year 1990 and 1998, more girls were enrolled in school than boys.
